Mark Brown is President of Mark Brown and Associates, LLC, a consulting firm dedicated to helping communities and businesses achieve sustainable growth through strategic economic and community development solutions. With more than 34 years of business experience and over 15 years in executive leadership, he has built a proven track record in industrial recruitment, business retention and expansion, workforce development, and public-private partnerships across Alabama and the Southeast.
Before founding his firm, Brown served as Regional Community Relations Manager for the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), leading community engagement across 17 North Alabama counties. He directed corporate giving, educational partnerships, and community enrichment initiatives, managing contribution budgets up to $2 million and building collaborations that advanced workforce training, education, and quality of life in TVA-served communities.
Previously, Brown was Vice President of Economic Development for the Birmingham Business Alliance (BBA), where his leadership helped generate over 16,000 jobs and $4.9 billion in new capital investment from 2011–2021. His experience spans diverse industries including advanced manufacturing, metal and steel, aviation / aerospace, life sciences, IT, logistics, and food & beverage.
Before joining the BBA, Mark worked as director of workforce recruitment at the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce, where he was responsible for the planning, creation and implementation of the workforce recruitment and retention programs for the chamber.
A graduate of the University of North Alabama, the University of Oklahoma Economic Development Institute, and Auburn University’s Economic & Community Development Institute, Brown currently serves on the Alabama District Export Council and co-chairs the Launch Regional Partnership’s Land Use and Infrastructure Committee and is a past president of the Japan-America Society of Alabama. He enjoys golf, hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors with his family.
